Officers of the OAS
Explanation of Officer Terms
The OAS Chair customarily serves for one year, after having served as Chair-Elect for one year. Upon completion of the one-year term, the Chair assumes the office of Past Chair for one year. The total tenure is 3 years for serving in the three positions.
On October 25, 1994, a motion was passed to add a Secretary. The position of Treasurer was added on October 2, 2002 at the annual meeting (in Denver), in conjunction with the efforts to incorporate OAS. The Secretary and Treasurer serve 3 years, and their tenures are staggered so that their terms are not typically vacated in the same year.
OAS was incorporated in July 2003. Incorporation formalized the process of selecting and holding terms of office according to bylaws approved by the membership.
On September 24, 2004, the OAS bylaws were amended to create two director positions: Director of Rulemaking and Director of Emerging Issues and Advocacy. The Directors serve 3 years, and their tenures are staggered so that their terms are not typically vacated in the same year. The director positions were created to assist the Chair in meeting the purposes, ongoing goals and activities of OAS.
The tenures of office, according to the incorporation bylaws, begin and end at the culmination of the respective Annual Meeting (allowing for completion of the elected terms which are typically 3 years in length).
The sequence of officers has been:
