NRC Announces Three New Commissioners Confirmed
The NRC announced that on Friday, March 19, 2010, the United States Senate confirmed the appointment of three individuals to serve as members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
They are:
Dr. George Apostolakis, of Massachusetts, for a term ending on June 30, 2014. Dr. Apostolakis currently serves as the Korea Electric Power Company professor of Nuclear Science and Engineering, and a professor of Engineering Systems at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Apostolakis also currently serves as a member of NRC's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards.
William D. Magwood, IV, for a term ending June 30, 2010. The confirmation also includes a reappointment for a term that will expire June 30, 2015. Mr. Magwood is the founder of Advanced Energy Strategies, a consultancy firm that provides strategic advice to domestic and international clients. He previously served under Presidents Clinton and Bush as the Director of Nuclear Energy within the U.S. Department of Energy.
William C. Ostendorff, for a term ending June 30, 2011. Mr. Ostendorff is currently the Director of the Committee on Science, Engineering and Public Policy and Director of the Board on Global Science and Technology at the National Academies. He came to the National Academies after serving as Principal Deputy Administrator at the National Nuclear Security Administration from April 2007 until April 2009.
They start as soon as the white house does some paperwork and swears them in. (could be any day)
